It's a dark starewell, green filled with long lost tales that dad once told and we saw in storybooks about a land far far away A door stands somewhere at the top, where we can step into some new world and remember the past as mom and dad taught it to us Somebody mentions a story whose name I've forgotten, but I know it's a familiar thing that I have some obligation to see and hear Someone rushes around at the top, a friend from school? he knows us, we move to him, captured in an instant running up the stairs There they are, the voices of parents from long ago, telling us that this is a good story to know and that it's a fun story to hear. I think there's a storm somewhere outside, if there really is an outside. "If history is to change, let it change. If the world is to be destroyed, so be it. If my fate is to die, I must simply laugh" |

Hmmm...this was an interesting piece. I liked the melancholy feeling it had...then again, I'm always writing about melancholy things. But the emotions seemed genuine, which brought out so much in this piece. Ahh...I think we all are on a green staircase myself... "Am assured, receptive, responsive women of substance. My sense of self comes not from other people but from myself? That can't be right." Bridget Jones |

Hey, all: Thanks for the replies and sorry I wasn't in earlier to respond. I am glad you liked this poem. It's based on a rather interesting dream I had once. All I remember of it now was that it had something to do with nursery rhymes or other childhood stories, and of course the dark green staircase. But I am glad you enjoyed my attempt to write it down this long after the dream itself "If history is to change, let it change. If the world is to be destroyed, so be it. If my fate is to die, I must simply laugh" |
