Sadly, these facts are true.
This is about someone I knew in Alaska.

She fell by the roadside
at 40 below zero.
No one saw her
hit the ground
that winter night.
Brutal Cold Death
took his toll,
once again.

I remember the day
you brought your new puppy
by my cabin in Fox
for a short visit.
You had him all bundled up
in your Carrhart's,
so he wouldn't catch a chill.
You laughed and seemed
so happy and carefree.
We talked about putting in
a garden in the spring.
I was new to the frozen north,
and you were fairly new there too.
You had a degree in
horticulture and we both
loved organic gardening.
I was happy to have a new friend.

But you couldn't stay away
from obsessing with alcohol.
You fell harder that night
than Humpty Dumpty
onto the frozen ground.
Someone came and rescued your puppy,
but it was much too late
to rescue you.

I will remember you though,
and your carefree happy laugh.
Too bad we never got
to garden that year.
But I planted some wildflowers
for you,
on the hillside.
Can you see them?

Hey Hon,
Great stuff, but I have a question... I kinda laughed when I came accross this part:
"You fell harder that night
than Humpty Dumpty
onto the frozen ground."
Was that your intention?  Very touching at the same time...

You have a knack for these stories sweetie. Realistic or not, sad or not.

I was thinking half way through this..."should plant that garden anyway"...so I'm glad for the flowers...

and? they all see.

take care you, this was excellent in the way of YOU.

Yeah, the reference to Humpty Dumpty kinda through me off...but nevertheless, I could feel your pain coming through on this piece. So sad...

I can feel your pain in this oddly raw yet narrative piece.  Remember that Death isn't cruel, Life is.

Thank you all for reading. I realize the Humpty Dumpty thing seems odd, but somehow, it is appropriate for this personal event. She had 'fallen' many times before, and was always able to 'put herself' back together again, until that night.
She would have loved those wildflowers, for they matched the wild side of her personality.
