For all those helpless souls who lost their lives in an avoidable tragedy off the coast of Africa. May your souls find some peace, and may your grieving families find some as well.

The Joola

It was back to school time,
so they boarded the Joola.
Excited Senegalese children.

It was back to work time,
so they boarded the Joola.
Hard-working Senegalese parents.

But no one was counting
and the count was too high
on an unseaworthy craft
upon which so many would die.

And in a rare instance,
admission of culpability
from a distraught politician,
too late, way too late.

Kacy,
Your own humanity, shines.

Brighter.

Thank you for your reply, Ed. This really is a sad tragedy, totally avoidable.

Yet another sadness
when people
become numbers.

Thanks for making me aware of this, Kacy.
And thanks for posting here.

It was a senseless tragedy, and all those children...so terribly heartbreaking.
Thanks for your reply.
