somebody's dungeon

With blackened face,
with swell of pride.
Battle weary,
broke inside.
Bereft of feeling,
numb to death.
Witness to
the fading breath.

Whether warrior
or soldier boy,
still the red
of blood will cloy.
Making the man
feel it's naught,
for too much of war
has each one fought.
Changing the heart
the spirit, the mind.
The senseless
killing of mankind.

I like how you've sneaked youth into this, with your "soldier boy."  This adds to the overall tragedy of human nature you have presented here.

Anne,
You've reminded me
that I need to find and share my poem
"I fought in a war."

Thanks.
