Here I lie, but an empty shell,
My essence has all been spent.
No longer have I dreams of tomorrow,
For my trials have drained from me all that I am.

Drop by drop, the life force seeps from my
weary body.
Phantom hands are imprisoning me,
with their icy, vise-like grip.
Warm memories from a past too distant,
have grown cold, leaving me naught,
--save this vacuuous present.
Wisp-like, spectral beings are swirling about
--Scavengers for what little remains of my soul
......it won't be long now......

Written when my nephew Chad disappeared on March 17, 1995 on Lake Ontario, along with five of his friends.

EAngel, Hope that this, Lost in saddness, has abated for you.

The poem is a darkish diamond

In reply to "which way do we go?", the answer was never "straight", but, "progressively forward".

Wranx---At the time of Chad's disappearance, my pen became dark and dreary---but I never allowed myself to get as low as this poem depicts. I'm a very positive person and truly believe that there is a universal rhyme and reason for everything that occurs. This tragedy added to the well of my experiences from which I draw at times when I write. Thank you for your caring reply.

PS--his birthday is coming up on September 30 th, and many memories are resurfacing.

This is so very sad Linda. I read what you posted in Open about your nephew Chad. It touched my heart then as it does now. My heart is with you.

WhiteRose---It's true what they say about PIP being a family of friends---there is so much love and it is a wonderful support system---sharing, caring, growing...Thank you for your empathetic reply.
