Shadow in the Sun

Never was forever was when you left me,
taking the sun away
leaving shattered light in my day
where once we filtered
through maple leaves
where once we rode
the sunlights soft falling beams.

Rent in two,
my soul screams for release,
seeking the night for peace.

I have followed your creeping shadow
over the rough floorboards,
against coarse curtains
to the wall,
a moving
intangible
pressing my face to the plaster
whispering to the sun
to keep you here just a little while.

You grow longer with the afternoon.

Too soon
I will fade into the sunsets embrace,
waiting for the morning
to chase you over the sky once more.

Once
I felt you fall on me
a warmth on my cheek
I could not speak
for fear of losing you
my fingers splayed
pushing into my skin
to touch you
you dont know
cannot know
how much you move me.....

Your shadow
moving away once more
my tears
staining the floor
deep shades of blue
the passing of you
a shadow in the sun.
