I'm confused about this child
that is hidden away from view
this child that trembles
when in the room with you.

She's frightened I can tell
afraid of coming out
so she stays locked inside
frozen by her doubt.

Shouldn't she be playing
with dolls or make believe
not fighting off the hands
that stole her purity?

Why is she so frantic,
why does she feel exposed,
why now, so late in life
does she haunt this rose?
