I'm Afraid (Inspired by Tamma's post about unsafe schools) |

I'm afraid to leave the house today, but you say I have to go. I can't miss a day of school you say, but what happened you don't know. I'm afraid of what will happen, of what occurs in my dreams, I'm afraid that this safe school, won't be what it seems. I'm afraid of all my classmates, of all those boys and girls. I'm afraid of all the bomb threats, and when the fire siren shrills. I'm afraid of walking down the street, of the knives that lay and wait. Of what goes through other people's minds, of what inspires their hate. I'm afraid that what happened to Jesica, will happen again, just to me. Except it wouldn't be my stepfather (I don't have one), it'd be a classmate you see. I'm afraid of all the guns and knives, and students playing around. I'm afraid of all that haunts me, friend laying motionlessly on the ground. I'm afraid of all the students, of all that lay between. I'm afraid of all the violence, God help me, I'm only thirteen. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I really am afraid of all of this. This is what I fear that I don't tell Justin. I wish I had the courage to tell him all of this too. I just don't want him to think I'm afraid of the world. Guys are like stars. There are millions of them, but only one will make your dreams come true. |

This is a frightening time to live, my friend. There is always danger lurking around, but all we can do is put our faith in Jesus Christ. Our only safety is in Him. There is no shame in being afraid, however. You describe your feelings well. Never hesitate to share your feelings with someone, that's the best way to deal with them. Thanks for sharing. Hmm... I'm going to give you some ~different~ advice. I'd say as opposed to putting your worries to some cosmic force as a "God," you would be better served to ask these things and get help from your fellow man. Call the police, talk to a counsellor, anything earthly. I've no problem with anyone having a religion, but for serious issues such as these, don't just pray that they go away. Get help if you are in trouble. And talk to someone if you are stressed by general anxeity. We all fear many of these things. It is no crime to be afraid, but you really should convey your feelings to people around you. This was a good start. -Allan We used to hate people, now we just make fun of them. It's more effective that way. --KMFDM |

I agree with Dopes All you need to do is be more concious of your surroundings. Don't make any enemies too...what for anyways....better to make friends, right? I agree with Luvybuggy too PRAYERS do help but it doesn't mean, after praying you can just sit and wait for things to happen, it doesn't work that way, you should try to help yourself too I see no changes, wake up in the morning I ask myself, "Is life worth living or should I blast myself" TUPAC SHAKUR |

This really is something to be afraid of. I was never really worried about it until last year when I was in seventh grade, they found a home~made bomb in the bathroom. It was nothing big and scary, as a matter of fact it probably would have done very little damage at all, especially since it was found in a part of the school that ins't used much. But it really gave me a rude awakening The thought of something like that happening at my school or even on my whole small little town really never crossed my mind before. Well ur poem was excellent, I really liked it. Keep up the great work!! Luv Always, ~*~P*R*I*S*C*I*L*L*A~*~ How come it is so easy for a person to say "I hate you," but it is so difficult for someone to say "I love you" and really mean it???? |

Allysa: I know how you feel. I went to a hischool in a small town. There was racism in the background all the time, because of the native comunity and the white rednecks having their petty differences. There were all sorts of people, both native and white, who felt that there wasn't much to look forward to in life, so they just chose to get into all sorts of trouble. It wasn't fun for someone like me, who doesn't really associate with people too much. It made me very cynacle about the nature of the human race. |

Allysa, your fears are well expressed and (unfortunately) well founded. The Columbine shootings happened at a "safe" school, but in this day and age no place really is. Anyway, keep writing. This is good. |

I liked this poem a lot mate! I liked the structure and the content. However thats so sad that you feel this way. It is so alarming to hear about all of this because problems at school are getting worse. Just be brave and enjoy your studies, do not worry about things that you alone, cannot control. Its interesting for me to read because I live in the UK. The situation is not as bad here, but its getting there. Take care - Michelle. |

I'm gunna have to say damn. Thats the best word I can think of for this. Damn that poem ruled, Damn your so right about those things. Damn someone needs to change all the hate and violence that seems to randomly pick it's victims. Damn I think I used the word damn too damn much. Anyways your a wonderful poet. It's cool to watch people write poems then watch those poems become inspiration for other poets. Great job to you and Tamma. >¶Øʆ< |
