To the Graduate Just as you stepped in baby shoes Across the kitchen floor It’s time to take a wavering step Through life’s mysterious door For what you do and who you are In precious days of youth Will follow you throughout your life In silent words of truth The friendships made, the honor paid The tasks that lie ahead The knowledge learned, the wages earned In future’s path are spread The world is waiting for your grace Devotion and your will A life of good and brotherhood Lies over yonder hill Within your heart it’s written In your eyes it’s now unfurled All that's needed to succeed In this uncertain world No matter what your job or trade The skill that you possess You are the one who holds the key To your own happiness So turn your tassles! Fling your caps! Put past days on the shelf The secret to your future Is this phrase of greatest wealth "Be ever truthful to yourself" Elizabeth Santos |

Really nice flow to it.....I really liked it. When I graduated and threw my hat up....it wasn't a toss in the air, it was a line drive right at somebody's face. Made me laugh...anyway, nicely done! I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust. |

That was great! I remember when I graduated (a whole 15 days ago)... Our principal didn't want us to turn our tassels. We aren't the most co-ordinated grad class ever. We didn't throw our hats, either... something about head cooties or something. And then there was the fact that one of the guys offered to give me his hat for me to throw up in (I was first, and slightly nervous). Anyway, that was a great poem. Thanks! Rhonda "Who did that?" "Charlie and Blake." "Who's Charlie and Blake?" "Rhonda and Amy.""Great. There goes the school." |
