The middle of nowhere

A kiss from a rose,
so beautifully sweet.
A kiss from her love,
makes her heart beat.

A small tear upon her face,
kissed away by her heartache.
For she will soon be,
in loves open wake.

A slow breakup,
is her only regret.
For in his promises,
there was a constant threat.

No one there,
to keep her from being harmed.
For when he was around,
she felt oddly alarmed.

He would beat,
and he would swear.
He'd pull her to the ground,
by only her hair.

She'd call for help,
but it would never come.
He'd keep this up,
Even though she protested,
her friends called him the true scum.

Hard as she tried to stay away,
he'd always come back to find her.
The beatings became regular,
her life became a blur.

No matter what she did,
no matter how loudly she'd cry,
he'd beat her more,
making her wish she would die.

Finally her friends got involved,
they called the cops to help her out.
Even as he was put behind bars,
she still felt some doubt.

Five years later,
he's back out again.
He hunted her down,
with a knife and a chain.

Her friends saw him coming,
tried to make her hide.
But she walked up to him,
with a new kind of pride.

She held in her hand,
a bottle of mace.
He looked at her laughingly,
but she just raised her hand,
and sprayed him in the face!

I'm so glad this story had a happy ending. Women should really take responsibility for their well-being like this. I really enjoyed this piece, thanks for sharing.

This was grrrrrreat! The story put me on the edge of my seat. I hope this isn't a true story about you, but if it is then you handled it well. If he came at you with those weapons then it's attempted murder in which he can go back to jail.
Anyway nicely done.

I was born myself, raised myself, and will continue to be myself. The world will just have to adjust.

I'm in love with my shadow
I admire it daily
