“Darkness” Darkness within Darkness without To my eyes all seems dim Through the shadows my heart crys out It is everything It surrounds There is no morning No brightly lit sky In this blackness my soul is burning No waters can quench no matter how much I try It is all It consumes The darkness fills me It controlls my very being Never loosenig it grip enough to let me free I search though these shadows to find it meaning It is nothing Yet it is all The shadows enrapture the minds delite Seeing all those who pass me by Cursing the name of those who walk in the light The only peace that I find is to lay me down and die It is death It is life For shadows strike fear Where light once shone And darkness consumes all we hold dear For the night has a power all its own It is the end While it was the beginning Coming forth from darkness to light Was how I began this life to their surprise I chose the darkness of the night The end is the same light to dark, the end of my strife For the darkness within And the darkness without They cuse my very being Not knowing the pleasures of the night Not able to feel what I am feeling Do they not see that too much light blinds as much as the darkest night? It's too bad I'm not as wonderful a person as people say I am, because the world could use a few people like that. |

I'm glad someone finally sees what I've been seeing. Well, I'm sure you've thought this way for a long time but this is the first from you that I've seen. I saw your title and was curious about how you'd write about darkness. You didn't disappoint me.  Just be careful that you don't let it consume you as I did at one point. Excellent read. I had a dream once that I could fly and I laughed at everyone and kicked them in the back of the head because they couldn't fly too. You have written about the need for darkness, the need for light, and a need for a balance between the two, and you have done a beautiful job. this set of poems is incredible and i have enjoyed reading them very much. Sometimes, the things that go unsaid are the only things worth hearing. |
