Me and Janie paired up years ago at a rock concert in City Park. Don't remember what bands where there, heck man, I'm lucky to remember I was there; Weed was so thick in the air you didn't even need a joint, all you had to do was breathe. I was inhaling deep stuff when this chick walked up said, gimme some of your air, and lip-locked me like I was a dying man. Man…pot be darned, I was euphoric! Minutes later, when my vision cleared, (you have to open your eyes to see) I looked into the deepest brown eyes I'd ever seen, moist and shinny…laughing, as was her smile. You okay? Uh…yeah, uh, uh take my air anytime. Janie's giggle was like bells, clear, vibrant, gentle on the ears; she really wasn't much, little over five-two, soak and wet maybe 103 pounds of sorta cute, brown haired, hippie-dressed, bare-footed womanhood that knocked my socks clear to my ears. She was alive, man, really alive. There was no sorrow in her, no hate, no pain; she lived to live, she gave herself to life. She found goodness in everything and sucked up the pain of others like desert sand drank rain. We walked the same footsteps, shared the same bed, ate the same food, laughed and loved together for seven months, then she left the same way she entered, taking my breath away… Yeah, me and Janie paired up years ago, and I still see those laughing brown eyes looking back at me. I still hear her giggle, and still have the pinky ring she left with the note that said…be thinking of you. Yeah, Janie…me too. w. james beard, jr. © January 2001 |

Not only did I like the poem very much but thank you for putting it in dark red letters, my eyes aren't great and I loved being able to read it easily>...... signed, grandma moses "I walked beside the evening sea And dreamed a dream that could not be." George William Curtis |
