Lovely haiku, and image. Very nicely penned. Poeminister "...no single sound too rude upon thy slumber shall intrude, Our thoughts, our souls- O God above! In every deed shall mingle, love." -Poe |

thanks for your comments. I have been reading a bit here on others( Melissa's and VAS) thoughts on haiku and it's definition. I hope to acheive some refining to some of mine and learn somethings. http://shoga.wwa.com/~rgs/glossary.html Koko, please don't go by me. I only have an understanding of the traditional syllable count. I suggest going to the above web-site. It is a glossary of poetic terms and gives examples of different types of poetry. I think you'll be pleased that you visited. |

P.S. plus if you go to www.voy.com/1001 and post a reply to an entry from Joyce Freeman-Clarke, she knows of a web-site that discusses Haiku in depth. Now mind you, it just made my head spin, but others seem to gain understanding of the finer points of haiku, so I think it's just me and my reluctance that blocks my acquisition. I posted this here rather than e-mailing as I think all might like to learn of the website. |

thanks Melissa for commenting and thank you VAS for the links. I have been studying at some other links and do welcome this added information. The thing is that western haiku is western and will be different than Japanese haiku because of the translation. Japanese words say more in small amounts and when translated have more syllables in English than 575 more often than not. Then in other countries it also translates differently. I love your kitty haiku and personally I loved it the way you first wrote it... whether or not a "critic" deems it pure haiku or not ...it was excellent. I am always seeking to capture the haiku essence or experimenting with irregular renka, tanka and choka. I will surely put this information to some good use!!!!
