Then, I'll Give You My Heart

You think you can just flash a smile
to seduce my soul, to get close to me,
but, you'll need to go the extra mile
to tear through my guard, but, understand, it won't be easy,
for, hope's windows were long ago smashed
I've been rejected, neglected and subjected to misery
as faith is now dead within this heart of glass

If you truly want to love me,
you must carefully read my verse,
a challenging task it will be,
you may be bruised while removing the curse
~*~
When roses don't wilt and die
and caged birds are all set free,
when you can breath peace into my sigh
to silence the weeping child inside of me
~*~
When stars don't succomb to day with their shine
and love has no cost,
when warmth melts the ice on this heart of mine
and my stomach doesn't turn in knots,
perhaps, I'll give you my heart
~*~
When rows of dandelions become fields of gold
and heaven lights my spirit, replacing hell,
when souls are never bought and sold
and pennies no longer drown in a wishing well
~*~
When crippled feet stand on solid ground
and lilacs bloom all year long,
when Atlantis is finally found
and every mute voice can sing a song,
perhaps, I'll give you my heart
~*~
When fantasies don't slip away to fade to dust
and poems never run out of rhyme,
when my walls crumble and you earn my trust
to stop the hands of time
~*~
When your touch erases haunting memories
and youth is no longer held in a fountain,
when you swim the deepest seas
and climb the tallest mountain,
perhaps, I'll give you my heart
~*~
When you can prove that your intentions are true
and blind eyes can once again see,
when my heart is no longer torn in two
and destiny is not a mystery
~*~
When laughter dances in my soul
and God shows his face,
when you can make me feel whole
with a nurturing embrace,
perhaps, I'll give you my heart
~*~
When roses are stripped of thorns
and darkness doesn't eclipse the moon,
when the myth ceases and unicorns are born
and violins don't play out of tune
~*~
If angels allow us to reason with fate
and you sign my contract, vowing to be loyal,
if I see in you, my eternal soulmate
and you promise me, that this love shall never spoil,
only then, will I give you my heart
