 A Phoenix Attitude In amongst the cold dead ashes of loves’ fire Lies my heart burnt out by yesterdays’ desire And from out of the seeming lifeless heap The Phoenix stirs, awakens from her sleep My heart held within her she starts to glow The fire of life begins to leap, the power flow Incandescence fills the air with flaring flame Majestic and awesome is this phoenix’s name With a flick of her tail she leaves the hearth The air filling with flame she leaves the earth And in spiraling assent she climbs ever higher Filling the air with her wonder, with loves fire Those hearts that witness her maiden flight Are blinded by the sheer brilliance of light My heart within her is resurrected in heat I feel my birth again my heart begins to beat In splendid isolation as she soars on through She lifts her voice in summons calling you Come with me she sings and the air is alight With a thousand phoenixes in formation flight The sky fills with wings of phoenixes on high Their wings so bright the sun heaves a sigh With her sisters to join her in this sky dance She revels in this her first freedoms prance In desperation my heart had broken and died Now it is reborn anew in this thrilling flame ride From out of the ashes of love that didn’t last My heart’s old pains are consigned to the past New hopes call, beckon on this phoenix choir To lift their voices in song louder and higher The future is painted in flames of pure power And truth, love and beauty in me will flower Marsha Take back the hope you gave,- I claim Only a memory of the same Robert Browning |
