Once upon a Dime Once upon a dime I sat in the picture show magenta curtains softly moved I smiled a lemon lollypop and fell into a different world where cats held bats and mice recovered and skunks fell in love and Mr Mago walked across a tight rope squinting into the air a mumble of what I’m finding out now wasn’t very nice How could I have known that time would take the organ and rhythm’s shoulders from the pit and replace with Dolby sound around and color all the cowboys into gone where the sound of hoofbeats melt into Saturday mornings lost to time with boards painted graffiti How was I to know then of love seating and choices so many choices fill the strand where life is in living color tears weep without Bonbons reality hurts and no one really recovers from it for the taste of a lemon lollypop is just not the same |

Oh I love this...I did not do the normal typical teenage "theater" going things...I get to come to Kansas to find out about the Fox Theater...to learn about the "best" places...and what happens where.... I could have lived it...but naivety stood in my way... this is great! |

What truths you share in this one... I recall my mom telling me of these sweet treasures... Such simple things when she used to go to the cinemas and how compared to today going out to the movies everything has changed... Thank you for the read Martie... |

Though there is a mournfulness to this, the loss of the depth of how some things touched us, I really enjoyed it. Pepe Le Pew was a favorite cartoon character. I still find myself mimicing his cas bah phrase. Thanks for the trip through my memories. |

Saturdays - the matinees Local movies, those were the days We could walk to three where we could go By the current serial we picked our show Twenty six weeks how’d they survive? Cliff-hangers all, “Is he still alive?” Couldn’t miss one, you’d be undone They couldn’t miss him – with that gun Certain death at each week’s end Worrying how Jungle Jim did fend Wondering how Green Hornet escaped Captain Marvel, he was caped Flash Gordon fought Emperor Ming Use the Raygun: “Got ‘em” Zing! First stop was the candy counter Popcorn, Black Crows, or Red licorice, Jujubes just a nickel The water fountain gave a trickle On the best of days a double feature A horror film with a creature Sit down in front and stomp and cheer Whenever a fight with the bad guy near Air conditioning and wooden seats, Only kids, it was oh so neat Scary parts feet off the floor Not too frightened – back for more Boston Blackie, and Dick Tracy Superman, but nothing racy Girls were rare – they gave us space We teased so much but they had grace |

Sea--I drove past the old theatre where I used to spend Saturday morning...so sad to see it fall...makes me realize how much has passed and how things have changed...thanks. Sunshine--I wasn't even a teenager yet in this memory...only a kid...and it was safe to go to the show with friends. Coco--Yes, your mom is right...thanks for listening to her. Maree--You mean you did all those things too...wow! VAS--I'm glad I could take you on a memory trip...thanks for such a nice reply. Bill--You poetic response is much better then the poem I wrote...I loved it...thanks for including it here. Karilea-- ![]() |

with gain of technology tradition is indeed lost ... but Hi-tech nor cybertech can touch the things held in memory and in poetry .. so Im grateful for the technology that I can come here and read your words very cool poem Martie-girl When to the sessions of sweet silent thought, I summon up remembrance of things past ... I sigh the lack of many a thing I sought. ~Shakespeare~ |

Martie~ Yes, this is indeed true for many baby boomers. This is just precious. I will share this with my mom, she'll surely relate and appreciate it's sentiment. You have some wonderful expressions and references in here, even I remember Mr. Magoo and I wasn't even alive when he was at his height of popularity. Take care, Melissa The beauty of poetry gives my soul wings to fly free within dreams |

This one reminds me of the song "Where Have All The Cowboys Gone". This was wonderful my friend and I too wonder often what happened to the days where the world moved slow enough for us to really enjoy it. Excellent as always. |
