Virginia Salter Batter up! Hear the crack of the bat, smell the popcorn, peanuts and a prize oh, how those hot dogs work to hypnotize! Dust’s flyin’, bubble gum’s stickin’ to the ol’ hip pocket; m’ best girl m’ picture in her locket. Short shorts, jerseys and a cap fillin’ up the diamond after winter’s nap. Sittin’ in the grandstands sippin’ soda through a straw shoutin’ at the home team “Don’t ya end it in a draw!” © March 22, 2001 |

Thanks, ME, for reading and commenting. I thought I'd mention, too, that though I'll surely be at the forum tomorrow some and maybe even Saturday a.m. I am headed for a short vacation so will be away for a few days beginning Saturday. Knowing me, I'll come home with poetry under my sleeve. |

My stars and garters! I don't believe it! But I shall because I'm terribly happy to see you here! Now I gotta look for some of your stuff, even if I should go to bed. Guess I'll go turn off that t.v. after all. WELCOME!!! Virginia |

Virginia, Gosh....thanks for the SUPER welcome. And you know, we are now even closer than we use to be. Recently moved here to the upper Hood River valley. (Cougar country). I'm over the posting limit for the day but maybe folks won't mind, it being so gosh awful late and all, if I slip one in here..for old times sake. RLW always liked this one: The Old Ways Distance knew them best. Distance And a solitude that set old pines apart And pressed young grass until it huddled Cringing near the forest. Few ever saw them hand in hand; Never knew them to embrace The way a shore clings to a lake. Like Separatists in need of space They went alone And pushed into the wilderness A reverence still unknown to most. Thus path and stream came down to us. RMW (Bob) |

Wow! Intriguing piece. Uh, posting limit? Where's that stated, if I read it, I plum forgot it. I see many posting lots in one day. I wonder if I've broken the limit myself... |
