Romantic Evening With the scented candles you adore I've made a path along the floor That leads directly to the bed Surrounding it from foot to head And draped around, soft red sheer From canopy it drapes quite clear In flowing veils it set the mood Subtle, subdued, just a little rude Satin sheets complete with cover And fluffed up pillows for my lover Sensual music played soft and low Will slow the pace, increase the glow Chilled white wine rests close by Crystal goblets on each pillow lie To wet our lips and ease the burn Of mutual desire and common yearn Warm massage oil lays on the sheet To rub your body from face to feet The bath is full, the candles flicker Towels stand by on rack of wicker As scented oil I generously pour Awaiting your arrival at the door I check the scene again in my mind Nothing missing nor left behind The phone released from its outlet All this evening's plans are set The bouquet of roses at entrance wait Oh please my dear please why are you late At the sound of the door's first ring My pounding heart with joy does sing I open it briskly but with flair To my surprise it's not you there A uniformed courier stands in your place Hands me a note with a smile on his face I give him tip and close the door And sink down slowly to the floor In haste I rip and tear the seal And read the words as senses reel " I tried to call twice in this last hour But you must have been in the shower By now you can see that I am late I'm sorry I have to cancel this date Give me a call if you can tomorrow I hope this doesn't cause you sorrow But things came up I couldn't leave I really hope that you're not peeved All I spoiled was a night of TV I'll make it up just wait and see Inside this envelope is sealed a kiss To remind you of what you'll miss" Brian |

A bittersweet, but outstanding read, Brian. Getting news like that really can ruin a night. I should be so lucky to have my man go through all that you did in your poem..I would be a pretty lucky lady. Kate Nice to see you here.. Blessings Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood. |

Yes, terribly bittersweet, but fantastically written. Oh what she missed as well. I'll leave it at that. |

I realize that I've read this before, but no matter where this poem travels, I never fail to take the time to read once more. Gosh, this is beautiful. Lovely, musical... "I am not now that which I have been." |

Brian, I envy you your grasp of the romantic...and the kiss sealed in the envelope. ("Where have all the envelopes gone....long time passing?") Enjoy. Bob |
