I have been to the edge Of the abyss and returned To tell about it I have walked a million miles With pain and sorrow Weighing me down I have seen the strong Collapse under the pressure Only to be left weak I have bled from within Engulfed in agony and despair Praying to live another day I have watched love Slowly wither before my eyes And die a slow torturous death I have endured things in my life That would have crushed A weaker woman I have given my all Only to be told It wasn’t good enough I have tried to be someone That I really wasn’t Sacrificing my happiness I have dreamed of a love Which would complete my life Leaving me contented I have wished upon A shooting star Hoping against hope I have failed at times Which isn’t easy For a perfectionist I have succeeded at times Looking for approval But it wasn’t there I have survived the past To dream of a new future With one who truly loves me I have lived my life In the shadows But today I walk in the light I have shouted some days Until I lost my voice Yet was never heard I have cried so many tears I wonder if there are any Left to be shed I have faced my fears Amazing myself With my strength I have been to the edge Of the abyss and returned To tell about it Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

BRAVO, This poem is long overdue. You are one of the most honest, beautiful young women I've ever had the pleasure to know and love. Not only do you have class and style but you in the shadows, are shining more than the smallest star in the galaxy and do you know why. Because you don't have to outshine anyone, you shine just where you are and the entire world will see what a wonderful woman you are. I'm damn proud of you, Jennifer, Kathleen Blake |

A compelling tale of strength, endurance, and spirit. Very nice, Lone Wolf. Claire Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

A wonderful write my friend. You give hope that there is indeed a return path from that abyss! Take care! "I've done all the dumb things"....Paul Kelly |

Having been in that abyss for a long time (and a perfectionist too!), I know the darkness there, but now I also know the ligth when you get the heck out it! This was an awesome write, and one I am sure many can identify with. p.s. I hope you posted this in the dark section as well, as it would be a great ray of hope for some who peruse the Dark Poetry Section, great read! |

Jennifer, I am so proud of you and this poem should be plastered on every wall in my home to remind me that, yes, there is hope for a brighter tomorrow. This poem had a super message for those who are still in darkness. I was so very moved by this one. Kate Blessings always Genuine poetry can communicate before it is understood. |

Painfully true, but very hopeful. Well expressed! A quarter of a century must pass, for the writer to understand what and why he writes. |

Sven - Thank you, yes, many have been there. The lucky ones return. SpitFire - I know you have said that many times. Thank you for your kind reply. Come on, walk with me!!! Saunni - Thank you, glad you enjoyed it. Kathleen - Thank you so much, sweetheart. You are a wonderful woman also. We'll both shine like they've never seen before!! From now on, I am just me. I know you are proud of me and that means an awful lot. I love you!! I am proud of you too!! Meadowmuse - Thanks for stopping by. You have got it exactly. EagleOne - Hey there, my friend!! There is a path. You just have to find it. Mysteria - Thank you. It is a worn path indeed. I'll have to share it with the crowd in Dark. Maybe it will help someone. You never know! Kate - AW, thanks!!!! Please plaster away!!!! I appreciate your words, they mean a lot. walker - Yes, painful. Yet, hope is there for us all. Thank you!
