As I look out over this little bay It is not as crowded as even a week ago Many of our feathered friends decided not to stay It must be the North winds they all follow The majestic Whooping Crane is on the way Up past Russia with stops to re-fuel They marry for life and up there the summer do stay In the fall their little chick flies down here,y'all I saw on T.V. that the snow and ice Is still coming across and no warm up in sight I have to get the word out before they pay the price By flying into more winter on their homeward flight Yes, the T.V.is a good idea, I will put it on shore Guess they will be able to see the weather station And make plans to stay here a while more Before putting their plans to leave in motion The cranes are gone and a great number of geese Some pelicans will leave & go to North Dakota, true They all better wait before planning a spring feast Hope I get the word out 'cuz I don't know what else to do When we go North once again I'll meet old friends I don't know any of them by name they just look the same Nest will be filled, chicks will grow, again nature wins I just hope they don't leave too early, that could be a shame |

Yes it does happen and this is an excellent write! The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges. |
