Your eyes are full of longing,
and I see need hiding there…
Your lips are smiling gently…
They are whispering that you care…
I know that when we meet,
we’ll live, we’ll love, and how we’ll laugh…
But I’ll still love you,
in Your Photograph…

It’s just a piece of glossy paper,
measuring eight by ten…
It came from miles away,
and it is dated: “don’t know when”…
That doesn’t really matter,
and I hope that you can see…
Your Photograph,
is now a part of me…

It greets me every morning,
and it helps me come alive…
And benefits from it,
throughout my day, I can derive…
It gives my mind a great escape,
when life won’t go my way…
Your Photograph,
is in my life to stay…

And now I’m looking at it,
after asking if you care,
enough to have me cross your mind,
while love, with her, you share…
The answer cut me to the bone,
much sharper, than a knife…
Your Photograph,
is all that’s in my life…

Old habits can be broken,
same is true for older hearts…
I know I need to give you up,
but don’t know where to start…
I stare into Your Photograph,
I’ve cherished, through the years…
And now your smile is stained,
by lonely tears…

Today, I put Your Photograph away,
so I can’t see…
The face I’ve come to love,
that takes the breath away from me…
Then someday, when my soul has healed,
and doesn’t hurt to laugh…
I’ll gaze once more,
upon Your Photograph…

Live...Love...Be grateful for both!!

Sometimes we need to remove the material before we can start to heal the emotional, many truths in your write I can identify with, be well my friend.

Reminds me of an old Def Leopard song, Photogragh. The midway turn in this took me by surprise, didn't see it coming. Very good write.

As I was reading this, my mind's phonograph was playing Ricky Van Shelton's "He's Got You"... and I was thinking of how we hang onto the little things when the bigger picture is out of our grasp. *S* Well done!

Sunnyone, there is much to admire in your poem. Its rhythm allows for quite an effortless read and the potential of its sentiment is universal. Thanks for it.

Hi suthern...
Yes, we do seem to cling to memories. I think it's because we all need the security that love can bring, and when it's gone, we hold onto what is left in our hearts. Thank you so much for your input!

Hi Claire...
Thank you so much for your reply....I do appreciate seeing my words through the eyes of my fellow poets....it helps to reshape my thoughts. It is good to see you here...either you have been away or I have, but I'm glad we can meet up again, my friend!

Live...Love...Be grateful for both!!

Sunny, this is so full of hurt, I am so sorry you are feeling this.
(Hey I have K in a bag in my closet, every photo, every note, zipped up and put away-and still I cry)
Be strong my friend, and be optomistic.

Ah, Sunny..this one just gave me chills. I absolutely loved it and am going to read it again after I post this. Photographs are powerful things, aren't they? Wonderful read.

Oh, 'S', I think sometimes the melancholy parts of life give me the most inspiration.
When I am feeling the most, I write the most.
Thank you, my dear friend!

Yes, TA, they are like ghosts that you can see and feel, but you cannot really touch them........not with your soul.......they are, after all, just pieces of glossy paper.
