that’s eating me alive

And what I saw in your eyes,
that I thought was me,
it was someone else

And truth be told
I was the only one in love,
they say, and you, so it goes,
were biding time with me.

And so they say,

another time, another day.
And perhaps this is true.
I don’t know.

And if you loved me
just a little,
I know, I think,
you would be here to say goodbye.
Or maybe not.
Maybe it’s better this way.
So they say.

And all those times
I was with you
and you with me
I must forget, they say,
and will, and life goes on.

I guess so.

But what I know
is that it hurts
to love and lose
and be left alone,
though there are those
who comfort me
and tell me to forget
and be my friend,
and this hurt will end,
I guess I hope I pray,
some day. So they say.

But oh the hurt.

I still love you.

mirror man,
I like this. I can relate to it. It has nice "echoes", at least in my ears.
I think the love experience never dies, even if it is only one sided. It fades, like all colors, but it never dies, at least I hope not.
Write on, man.

It won't go away but hopefully the pain will dull, so you'll have a chance to find one who sees you in their eyes.

Thank you all. But I wrote this back in June last year. And I was thinking about my ex, about how I felt at the time we divorced. We've been divorced 15 years now. No pain there. But thank you anyway.
