The sun’s golden rays Cascade gently upon my face As I sit here this morning Enveloped by their warmth On this beautiful day The cat lies in the window Stretched out on the sill Soaking up nature’s heat The beams softly illuminate His pure white fur He is totally relaxed Lying there eyes half open I hear his purring From across the room As I smile at him I turn my gaze To the scene behind him Where a slight breeze Ripples through the leaves Swaying the trees I am taken back To the many times I looked outside The picture window At my parents house There was the blue spruce Towering by the driveway That provided cool shade Until it was replaced By mom’s patio Back a little farther Was the magnolia tree Which blossomed each year In all its glory although Mysteriously it died after she did The things I remember best Are all the flowers Covering the porch Making you feel welcome By their brilliant colors There were red and white geraniums In huge ceramic pots Adorned by green spikes Pink and purple impatiens Always hung from the awning My favorite has always been The solitary tiger lily Growing by the front gate I was captivated By those soft orange petals It grew next to the patch Of bright yellow marigolds Mom planted each year They surrounded the rose bush That produced deep red roses The peony bush in the back yard Reminds me of my grandmother Because it once grew in her yard So many years ago Now it’s an annual remembrance Then the cat moves Returning me to today Sitting by my window I smile to myself Thankful for this moment For bringing the visions Of those who are loved Yet have moved on To me to enjoy On this blessed day Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

This is great, how you take the reader on a journey...the present...past...and back to the present again...and anchoring that transition with the cat...very nice. I enjoy the movement...how the memories of your home are intwined with the memories of your family...all visions of love. Thanks for sharing! Jellybean King |

Contentment and blessings. Those are the words that come to mind as I read your lovely poem. The little things are what make up this complicated life we live. Good work. I loved it. Joyce |

Jellybean King - Thank you very much. You got the point exactly. All memories I will treasure for a lifetime. You are welcome. ![]() Joyce - I truly believe it is the little things that count most and leave the biggest impressions on a life. I felt blessed and contented as I remembered it all. I can see it in my mind like it was yesterday. Thanks for reading and I am happy you enjoyed it. This is beautiful.. yes, a true love you can never let go of.. memories.. Tiger lilies.. mm.. they are beautiful, aren't they! My Grandparents have some lilies that flower every year, right on my birthday. ^^ I certainly enjoyed this one.. brings back a few memories of my own, from when I lived on the Coast (of NZ). We had marigolds too.. my favourite flower when I was 3.. ^_^ -Lynne |

So cool the way you wrote this one. It seems so laid-back. Nice write. Red ![]() |
