The winter moon was rising high Into a cold, unclouded sky And I had stepped outside my door To gaze upon the night once more, When from the hills that rose beyond The fallow field and frozen pond, I heard a wolf howl mournfully. I held my breath to wait and see If any answer I could hear And when one came, it was quite near. It thrilled me to the very core To learn that wolves lived here once more And in my wilderness, at least, There's ample room for man and beast! I can understand why it would be published for it has such a homey spin to it and it's set-up with such wonderful rythum and rhyme.....Welcome to Passions and I hope to read more from you.....take care ethome The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges. |

Dear Ethome: Thanks for your nice remarks. I'm glad you enjoyed the poem. I see you are Canadian. I was born in Alberta and spent my first 15 years there. What relatives I have left are still there. Thanks for the welcome to Passions. Betty Lou Hebert |
