I was a small inquiring child the first time that I wondered how time could go on forever? "How could it not?" I pondered. In this finite world in which we live, a definite rule applies. Everything beginning has an end. How could it be otherwise? I used to ask my mama. She would just shoo me away. "I only know if the sun comes up, it will be another day." I put the question to my papa, who was busy milking cows. "I don't have time for all of this, your who, your why, your hows." I'd sit and think and think some more on this matter so perplexing. Why couldn't I get an answer to this question I found vexing? I started school and learned to read. I searched the latest edition of the school's encyclopedia. There was a big omission. I found no mention of time in it; at least with any clarity. When I tried to tell my teacher of this scandalous disparity; she told me just to take my seat; pay attention to my spelling; and when I tried to ask some more, she almost started yelling. Now that I am older, I'm still trying to understand how if everything was gone today, the sky, sea, animals and land, the people would be missing too, but time would go marching on. Now isn't that a conundrum, we should all be thinking on? The only way I can figure, time must go around and around. Everything that has been before, will once again be found. by: Joyce Johnson 03/15/2001 |

Joyce, did you live in my dress, and did you wear my shoes... all the whys and wherefores, why I must cry, my Muse! [This message has been edited by Sunshine (edited 03-15-2001).] |

Dear Joyce: I like this! The only thing I know about time is that it goes much too fast! Betty Lou Hebert |

How to describe time it is you defines you and I and all in this coropreal mayhem yet it is my near greatest friend Simply said Time is living we live in absolute dying that cannot be denied But more time is change by any and all defintions time is purely change that is its nature as for Death my dearest friend he so completely misunderstod and oh so lonely he reaches in touching takes all pain away and yet accursed is he does not understand though cold he always offers his helping hands in all ways he understands the fear but the hate he flounders on he is what he is and never fails nature giving peace total release Sorry that is my pal I am wont to stand up for his pain which almost noone ever feels yet with every life is all too real "Be your own hero. Save your interior landscape. As in all mythos the blight can be defeated and the land turned back to freedom and fertility. [This message has been edited by ATelamon (edited 03-16-2001).] |

I think evreyone thinks about those things Joyce......the greatest selling book of all time is the Bible...some so-called experts call it a mythical composition written by men while others call it a guide by which to live their lives...you make your own choice I guess.....however, I do know that it offers a more positive outlook on the future than any other book....if you look up John 17:3 you will find this type of positive thinking, it says there...."This means EVERLASTING life, their taking knowledge of you the only true God and and the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ" (New English Bible) I can't recall any other books that make that promise without beating around a philosophical man made traditional bush first.....and you know what Joyce..I'm NOT a religious man! I like to keep an open mind all the same. I also know that same book (Bible) says at 2 Timothy 3:16..." all scripture is INSPIRED of God and beneficial for teaching, for reproving, for setting things straight, for disciplining in righteousness..." (New World Translation) Take out of it what you will ...I always come away with a feeling that the book feels definitely inspired......if one really thinks about it they can't imagine how man is going to get himself out of the current situation he's in all by himself..... I know that many others have their well thought out opinion....I just can't read that book and not come away without a deep respect for a grand majestic creator who I feel will someday right all the wrong that has been and is being done...and in no way can he blamed for what man has done to himself....many have tried but it usually ends up being as a result of being handed a terrible life due to a genetic fault or other inherited imperfections and understandably they're looking for someone or something to blame. Sorry to go on so! It's late at night and I'm in front of this computer and rambling...hope some of it makes sense.....have a good night ethome The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges. |

Thanks to all of you who took the time to reply to my poem. It is just such a mystery to me. I know time will go on forever, but how can there be a forever? As I said, I have pondered this all of my life. Love, Joyce |

Joyce, You have beautifuly penned one of the mysteries of the universe here. Time always goes on. It is kind of like the question "If a tree falls in the forest and no one is around to hear it, does it still make a sound?" Of course it does, but no one hears!! Life is funny like that. Great writing! Lone Wolf Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |
