(I felt the need to repost this poem today...maybe you will know why, or maybe, just because.)

The Sharing of Wild Things

Imagine
this impressive pair
of furry four-legged hunger
at my back door.

One,
a black cat with white paws
and bib,
of questionable alley
parenting,
appeared like summertime
and stuck her warm fur
into my indifference
then made her way into the kitchen
and my heart with her need.

The other,
a wild thing
of odiferous intent when necessary,
small lissome beauty,
so pretty in black and white
tuxedo with graceful curving tail.

They were standing together
eating from the same bowl
of cat’s Deli Delight.
An awe-inspiring look at sharing
from such a humble pair.

They were both intent
on filling up,
but watchfulness was obvious
as one casually eyed me,
the other was ready to turn-tail
and run

or should I be the one
to run if it turned tail?

I closed the door and watched
them out the window
as my awe melted around me.

I remember this one...and I like that we are both "in the wild" today....

I always enjoy your poems...whether a repost, or a new one....

but give me a new one soon!

The narrative just flows...just flows so nicely and unfolds neatly before the reader...just love it! The idea that these wild things can share between themselves, and that you can share with them poses the philosophical question of what is wild...you reveal that when you pose the question if you should be the one to run if they turned tail, instead of them. From their perspective, you could be the "wild" thing. Intriguing indeed. I also loved the last line..."my awe melted around me"...what a wonderful line!

I loved this before... the sharing between species... the similarily in their markings with one major odiferous difference *G*... and the awe you found in watching them. *S* And I can only thank you for sharing it again... a repeat leaves a smile resting gently on my lips. *S*

Well done. It is as if you were looking toward my patio door. Rather than a skunk, which so far has not shown itself, you might be seeing raccoons, possums and of course stray cats. My own kitties accept the wild things but hate the stray felines. Joyce
