One of those weekend Afternoons Unscheduled Unplanned No guests Cascading channels Click, click, click Click click click Yawn, ho hum The screen flashed a cake Some chef doing chocolate I bounced up for some coffee Thought: "Why not?" In moments Oven set to three-fifty Butter, flour, sugar, bowls out I started to measure Had that stomach-turning feeling When you pressed yourself Against my back We'd never cooked Let alone baked Together before Yet elsewhere our Compatibility was unquestioned You didn't grab my apron strings To my surprise, You had on your own apron Gliding over your own lily-white shoulders As you retrieved cake tins My sense of intelligence Hadn't prepared me For this moment I plunged ahead You took on the frosting I addressed the batter "I know you like 'stiff' but shouldn't batter pour?" I grinned "Well we agree on creamy so I know the frosting will be alright" Soon the batter was ready And you greased the tins I poured Oven light out Tins in Our lips sealed with a kiss As we pledged our tongues together To clean the utensils Anxious to frost The layers had to cool Two hungers in conflict I cannot remember a more Delicious, delightful Cake baking The first duty of love is to listen. ~ Paul Tillich ~ [This message has been edited by Wilfred Yeats (edited 03-14-2001).] |

OHHH!! Its been too long since I've read any of your work (my own fault of course) I love this. It was sensual and endearing all in one. Truly beautiful, sir. I do miss reading your work. |

I don't think you needed the oven after all... this generated enough heat! *G* Well done! |

Now I know why my Amish neighbors have such great pies - breads - pasteries - and such large families. |

Wil, This is delightful- great subject or ordinary subject done in an extraordinary way. I have to go though, I need a shower to rid me of the chocolate and the tension this created. |
