March Memories...repost from #4

Through an open window
the fragrance of orange blossoms
stirs memories.
In that lingering citrus scent,
longing becomes
a little girl
enchanted by a tree,
by the perfection of a day
when simple dirt and roots
the canopy of a thousand buds
was the soul of importance.

That little girl is me,
scrubby kneed inquirer of
bird songs,
toes wiggling excitedly
in the soft cool dirt,
the marveler of insects
and asker of questions.

She was not always this innocent
or kind, nor would she ever
be so awe struck by simply
being where she was
and who she was.

And as far as days go
she could not make this one
last longer then it was
and so it fell into the past
and was lost,
until now.

Martie~
Oh, the essence of you -

'That little girl is me,
scrubby kneed inquirer of
bird songs'

And you sing them so well.
Love you~

Are you sure you don't see me somewhere there in the shadows? Here...I'm up in the branches...awaiting your presence with giggles pending...

with a clearer perspective
we realize the child always remains in us
but still -
without the cloud
we might never have had this poem
so - remind me to fog your glasses occasionally

Beautiful reflections of times of innocence and inquisitivenessl Martie! Well done!
