Inner Thoughts

With butterflies that shelter me
in warning, shielding pain
to guard with wings that lightly tease,
inside they come again.

I drink of sweetened words of writ
and taste to tempt desire.
And as they flutter, rise in me
a heat, a warming fire.

Toasting me, deliciously
on days of barely sun,
a buttercup in yellow mist,
I soak until I'm done.

Relaxed upon the lettered field
of cloud words on blue skies,
released to fly from inner thoughts,
I've seen behind closed eyes.

Their freedom gives me mine in turn
a stretch beyond the walls
until the next dark clouds to form
bring back those warning calls...

~Wynter

'Toasting me, deliciously...'.

I see many similarities. Appreciated much!

The rhythm in your wonderful piece was not forced one little bit, and made it so enjoyable to read. Wonderful poem and I sure enjoyed it.

It's a rhythm that sort of has become my style. Many times I have to write in free verse just to get away from it thank you.

Joyce
