If I Were
Virginia Salter

If I were a butterfly
I’d turn tail and fly right by

I’d flap my wings
upon the breeze
I’d fly above and through the trees.

From flower to flower
I’d dance and soar
I’d float around through your door.

I’d let you know
the beauty that glows
when I light and kiss your nose.

I’d mesmerize
your wanting sighs
I’d see joy deep in your eyes.

I’d sprinkle you
with pixie dust
so you’d come with me with utmost trust.

We’d fly into
eternity
above the land and over the sea.

Please do not
resolve to be
a worm of lowly faculty.

Let yourself
bloom and grow
a new creation as white as snow.

We’ll join in great
camaraderie
yes, I’ll love you and you’ll love me.
