I did not expect to find a smile
As I prowled along the grocery store aisle,
But a certain amount of lunacy
Attacked the visitors crowding aisle three.
The radio played a distinctive rift
And the notes reached out, our spirits to lift -
"I've got sunshine on a cloudy day"
Suddenly shopping lists were miles away.
An elderly man shoved aside his cart
And clasped his laughing wife to his heart,
The stock boy spun his mop and pail around
As we enjoyed the moment we had found.
Canned grapefruit juice was my partner of choice
During the chorus, we all added voice
To an off-key bellowing of "My Girl"
One lady gave a "Big Sale!" sign a whirl.
The management might have frowned in dismay
As a brave duo tried to dip and sway
But nobody wanted to miss the chance
To lose cares and woes in song and dance.
The song ended, and a bit sheepishly
The customers moved away from aisle three.
The delight we'd shared didn't stay behind
I smile still as memories tease my mind.

I love it when a song makes a dull day into something special.

cowboy says:

"Clean up in aisle 3!!!"
Or would that be fill me up in aisle 3.
Inquirnig minds wanna know if the label on that juice got peeled off or did all the steam rising simply make it melt away?
Way cool dance you have given us but we need to talk about that voice of yours.
Is it true that a suthern gal can get into trouble for being so happy?
I guess we will all just sit back and watch.

inot2B: I like it when anything makes a dull day into something special! LOL. Thank you very much!!

dreamkeeper: Just last week, they were playing Christmas songs in that same store... ya think that lunacy is contagious? LOL. Thank you!

JLR: I'm very glad you liked... thank you! *S*

Brian: Thank you for those very kind words. *S* And yes... the boost smiles give is important... whatever the source. *S*

serenity: So did this make you wanna head out to Schweggman's for the evening? LOL. Thank you very much!!

Marge: Shhhhhhh... I'll never tell! LOL. Thank you, ma'am... so glad you liked!

Toe: But it was just grapefruit juice... no vodka added? *G* Thanks, sweets... I'm glad you liked! *S*

JM: Hon, when people hear me sing, they plug their ears and run AWAY, not to join! LOL. (But that doesn't hush me. *G*) Thank you, sweet lady!

Denise: Thank you for your delight - it WAS fun! *S*

PDV: Well, I was actually boogying with my buggy instead of the juice and I'm not quite sure what aisle we were on. *G* But otherwise... YUP. *G* Thank you so much... to contribute to your library is indeed an honor! *S*

WhtDove: Since you distribute sunshine so often, I'm glad I was able to return the favor. *S* Thank you!

Janet Marie as cowboy's proxy *G*: ROFL... I shoulda known he'd tattle about me knocking over all those displays... it is SUCH a shame I missed out completely on gracefulness! LOL. Please tell him he is missed and I thank him very much... even if my way cool dance was probably more aptly described as way klutz! *G* And trouble? (very innocent look) Moi? *G* Nahhhhhhhhhh... he might as well quit watching and hustle his buns back in here! *G*

This was loads entertaining!!! I could just picture it like a Saturday Night Live skit. I'd say this was very humorous and quite original...told in such a way as to be believable. Thanks for the pleasurable read.

jellybeans: If this had gotten only one response, I'd consider it a success if it gave you a smile. *S* How I'd love to see (and join *G*) you and your little one! *G* Thank you!

Martie: Yanno... there are some around here (though I won't name names *G*) who'd take advantage of knowing you're ticklish! LOL. Thank you so much, dear lady... this smile is so welcome I can't help sharing! *S*

Dawn: Thank you enjoying... I appreciate that very much! *S*

Red-uni: I've borrowed smiles from so many people... you can't know how glad I am to have given you one today. *S* Thank you!

I did not expect to find a smile
as i clicked and prepared to respond to this post
but a certain amount of lunacy attacked me
and i found myself smiling
with the horrors of this past week temporarily forgotten...

thanx

Oh this was great, singing in the store. I do it with smile to see who will smile back. The all do, then as soon past they usually loose their smile, while i just keep smiling as i walk around the store.

Brought a great big smile to my face. And reminded me that I haven't smiled in public lately.. Will do today when i go to the store..
