Sightless - (Alternative title: Role Playing [?])
(A Partial Fantasy)

The worth and meaning
Of a caress
I think it not possible
We could go through life
And not know it

We'd been married for years
When she fell
Hit her head
Left her sightless
They said it would return
They didn't know when

Well, we adjusted - our
Marriage had cooled
The early fervor faded
But core love remained
Naturally I stepped in
Supported her in everything
Touch became part of each
Conversation
The dog joined the family
The kitchen, bath, all rooms
Rearranged

Yet the touch
Took prominence
The touch I could see
But hadn’t realized -
Since I was a teen!

So I ask you to remember
Remember back
Back to the first tentative
Touches, caresses
How electric, how meaningful
They were
We relearned
I relearned

She can see again now
The honeymoon returned
It hasn't left

The first duty of love is to listen.

Touch is an important element in love...the little caresses that show you care...

This is a heartfelt moment.
...But core love remained...
We must adjust to the fate Life hands us. I've been married 30+ years and we've always said as we grow older, "I'll be your eyes, you be my ears".

Sir, I should call this "Sightless Feelings", if I had the choice...
