FaithI've drifted, dull, through frightened nights of blindness. Naive, I breathed the ethers of the sea. Now ragged scrap on shores of cold unkindness, come quiet the waves from pulsing, pounding me. Oh Faith, I turned - regretful, sullen, sober - away in hatred's haste and bitter loss. This nameless sense of grief became my lover, a silent deep I cannot swim across. Humility calls quick both false and fearless, as eloquence of pride, unheard, allows me breathe and know unspoken peace, lie tearless in prayer for grace and all my Faith endows. And now through few and fevered days remaining, I plead, with breath and blood in slightest rise and weight of humbled spirit, heart unfeigning, oh Faith, come lift this darkness from my eyes. Could a greater miracle take place than for us to look through each other's eyes for an instant?......Henry David Thoreau |

o crapola this is great... sorry for the use of metaphor in my comment but this is truly great! You know the "Never Ending Story"? They're still telling it! [This message has been edited by wayoutwalt (edited 03-04-2001).] |

Your faith will see you through. All we have to do is believe. Nice writing. LW Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

Excellent poem, very well expressed Don't ever give in, if you do you've lost everything you've ever had and everything you hope to gain, but if you carry on your already winning. |

My earnest thanks for reading, everyone. Not to worry, my faith is intact...this is simply a poetic examination, though we all have been there, to some degree, I suspect. Thank you, each, for your kind and encouraging responses. Always a pleasure sharing poetry with you folks.
