How many words have I choked?
My pen a fountain of unspoke?
How many times at night I cried?
and you unbothered, slept, dry-eyed?
How many sobs in pillow sank?
and heaves I swallowed tasting rank?
How many nights I've lain alone
to fight the dawn to gain my own?
How many times my eyes have lied
COUNT THEM--count each tear I've cried...
Be merciful and call an end--
tell me you'll not be my friend--
I cannot walk another mile
to distance me from shadow's smile.
