What Kills A Love?

What kills a love that’s perfect and whole?
Is it all the lies that ripped apart the soul?
Would it have survived in the seas of time?
Would it have sailed on thinking all’s fine?
What of the cuts of words spoken in hate?
Would the words I’m sorry come far too late?
What kills a loving and tenderly pure heart?
Only words of lost chances dreams torn apart

What murders a soul that is given in trust?
Is it the slice of deceit that turns it to rust?
Would it have danced on in its divine bliss?
Would it have reveled forever in loves kiss?
What of the pain that comes from those lies?
Would hopes dream revive a spirit that dies?
What murders the spirit that speaks within?
Only words of painful lies that tear truths skin

What destroys a heart that once loved true?
Is it the torture of seeing betrayal’s blue hue?
Would it have continued in its path of light?
Would it have soared forever in desires flight?
What of the chains that bite into its soft sigh?
Would truth’s beauty be there in its sad eyes?
What murders a soul that hears loves song?
Only words so bitter with lies they taste wrong

Marsha

I wish i knew the answers... for i know the feelings all too well. I don't think we'll ever truly know. Thanks for the read.

I really do not think this could have been said much better.

You have answered your title's question so exremely well. I can see nothing to add.

Lies more lies, betrayel, yes what murders the heart that loves?

And it is murder. I am glad you had no compunction in naming things as they are.

My sincerest compliments. This to my library goes. Thank you, this expression means more to me than you will ever know.

Very well written.

all of those things can kill a love, but i think the greatest thing that can kill a love is doubt and words spoken critically.... trust is hard to hold and it's the most vital thing in a relationship... sometimes people start doubting the love of the other and become too demanding and say hurtful things....

from 1 corinthians 13:

"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it
does not boast, it is not proud. Love is never rude.
Love is not jealous, it is not self-seeking, it is not
easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the
truth. There is no limit to love's forbearance,
to its trust, its hope, its power to endure."

true LOVE can handle all of it and this text says it all....

your poem was quite well written and i'm sure spoke for many.... i do believe if the above guidelines are followed, love can survive and flourish

Marsha - I would have many words to say about what kills a love. I sure would. But you have expressed it well in your writing.

I would answer, but so many have said what needs be said...wherein, this makes you a bona fide poet....placing questions, seeking answers, letting others....give....

What can I say but that I thank you all for reading this, and I also thank you for each for your words of wisdom. It seems to me that love will grow but you don't know if it's real love until it has weathered a few storms.

So sail on in truth and love everyone, may you each one of you feel the kiss of light, the touch of an angel, and the peace of truth. May the sun always warm your face, your shadow fall behind you, and the road you are on rise up to meet you. May you never feel the pain of hunger or thirst, the loneliness of an empty soul or the loss of hope.

And may you all know that somewhere sometime your words have touched a heart, lifted a spirit and brought a smile to a soul.
Take care as always
love and warm stuff
