There’s a silence on the infield- A pall falls on the stands... The cheering slowly dies away... As shock fills all the fans. Left on their minds an image- That they thought they’d never see... That final turn...the crash and burn, The death of “Number Three”! The final turn, the final lap... What fitting irony- ‘Twould also be the “final” race, They’d run with “Number Three”. Dale Earnhardt was a legend- Who will live on in our hearts... A savage “asphalt warrior”- On the turns, and in the starts. A “rags to riches” upstart... Giving hope to you and me... The “man in black” will not be back, A toast to “Number Three”. Where e’er they talk of racing- Or of immortality... His name will surely come to mind- We miss you...”Number Three”. |

Yes, even though a week and two days have passed, the impact of the loss is just beginning to be known... but I do despise those that would make a return on the loss... Thank you GS... |

Oh man, I know I'm gonna miss him and I hardly watched racing but for some reason I was hooked on Earnhardt....I was really rooting for him to break the record for the most point titles...a good tribute Gunslinger, I wanted to make one but my creativity ain't flowing to well...hopefully your poem will inspire me to write a tribute too..before I go, I wanna say R.I.P. Dale Earnhardt. Nathan |

I cried! The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges. |
