The Cry of the Ancients From the lands of past far distant Call the ancients to their people. ‘Mid the rubble long forgotten Cry the voices long in slumber. On the wings the whisper travels Over plains, across the prairies; Echoing from the great, tall mountains Far across the flowing rivers. Thus the cry goes outward, seeking For the old man and the young man; For the children born and unborn, And the women in their labor. Forget not us who went before you In your tales around the campfire. Let us live in all our glory In the songs that we have taught you. Thus the ancients cry their message From the lands of past far distant; ‘Mid the rubble long forgotten Cry their voices long in slumber. |

And if the young don't listen and the ancients' cry goes silent we'll never know the wisdom in the echoes of their voices. Hope you will write more about those campfire songs and tales. |

Thank you for your kind words, Krawdad. I've written some old stories that I remember having heard from the storytellers that would come visit us in the winter back in my homeland in Ontario, Canada. I've been thinking of posting them in the prose section, but wasn't sure how they would be received. |

sonagolese, I love this poem. The stories of the ancients should be important to us all no matter what nationality. Forget not us who went before you In your tales around the campfire. Let us live in all our glory In the songs that we have taught you Dee I wish you every happiness and may you always have the best of the good things in life. a brand |

Sonagolese~ You could write all day and night of these beautiful tellings - I would happily sit the questing of your visions. Please let me know when you've placed something in the prose section. Peace~ ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Forget not us who went before you In your tales around the campfire. Let us live in all our glory In the songs that we have taught you. Thus the ancients cry their message From the lands of past far distant; ================================== And a poet hears and answers "you are not forgotten" in a beautifully penned promise. Well done! |
