Our Garden

A moment,
external to self
to consider this intimacy,
palpable in its unfolding,
the four of us -
living metaphors
of the garden we tend.

Just clay and weeds
after winter’s hail,
still,
there are signs
of spring ,
the cherry tree -
a preview
of pink;
the slivers of bullion
pricking through
gray skies.

My son and I pull the milkweeds,
you and my daughter
lug last fall’s leaves.

Soon
we’ll all plant seedlings,
I’ll catch
your knowing glance
in this day-by-day growth
toward family.

The last word, as all of this, is exquisite.

Corinne, this poem paints a wonderful image. I believe you'll have a good harvest. Happy family planting to all 4 of you.

very cool use of metaphor to define the mentioned metaphor ...
always enjoy your poetic perspective C,
very nice feeling taken from this
a lovely promise of things to come
