In a Box of Treasures this is where my soul lies in a box of treasures no longer mine, but his it’s his box of treasures for the taking out and looking upon to finger some lace to linger over scents he touches the brooch once worn and fiddles with some rings holds up some gee-gaws and fancy, frilly “things” he remembers the day he bought those golden loops and memories resurge as his thoughts recoup a bit of scarf, my scent is there a strand of scarlet round lock of hair old photos, worn thin he still sees the smiles therein pretty eyes, warm and green a captured glance that was serene this was the necklace that I wore he wonders who he keeps it for and that was a bracelet that graced my wrist which he holds clenched in his fist and then he picks up a lonely key and looks at it quite longingly and wonders what it could have fit his memories unravel they won’t quit he wonders of the key inside that little treasure box he’s searched and looked all around he has yet to find the lock he’ll never know and is scared to ask as his thoughts take him to task for she is gone but not from his memory but still he wonders of the key….. Oh my goodness Sunshine, this one made me all teary eyes and that is the honest truth... I enjoyed the poem immensely it brings back a memory I have of someone dear who kind of went through a similar experience... This is innocently touching without any warning the poem gently tugs at the heart... I just loved it Sunshine and it's a keepsake for me in my "TreasureBox" library... Thank you PoetFriend ~coco~ |

Reminds me of how long they stay around in our memories...I have a picture on my wall of me and the girlfriend that I took to the senior prom many years ago...her name was Billy Jean Smith...she was an angel...it always brings back good memories...James |

This is such excellent writing Karilea...makes me want to shed a tear or two...but you have the ability to do that somehow.....great work dear poet lady!! The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges. |

Interesting metaphor, yet the persona itself sees that whihc the box contains. Therefore that must be seperate than the individual items. Ahh just some metaphysical mumbo-liked the poem very much. AT "Time is merely change. It neither enslaves nor determines us. It is instead our opportunity for self-definition" |
