Anew
Virginia Salter

drenched land
standing puddles
earth in shock
from rocking moisture

gray skies
unseen clouds
sputter, splinter
onto terra

changing season
boggles reason
winter’s treason
breaks toward spring

drinking, drinking
fast as able
tulips, crocus
daffodils

ancient blades
still at attention
monuments
to seasons past

looking out
within my shelter
pondering
the brink of life

one edge
or other is where I be
the end of winter
the beginning of spring

each year
a chance
to begin life
anew

Thank you both, I'm happy you read and especially that you commented such nice words. The day is still gray here, but it's different from the winter grays. Several finches were dining at the feeder, too. That put sunshine in my step today.

Spring always has a way of making all things seem possible. Enjoyed this.

Thanks, Poet deVine, yep, I'm even thinking about trying to get a tradition of starting new year's resolutions in the spring time. I never make them anymore because I always falter soon. Plus if I make them out loud than others will know I failed, too.

But I'm thinking that when spring is making new leaves that it may be easier to 'turn over a new leaf' what do you think?

N.C., Coco and Poeminister, I really enjoyed your comments. Yes spring will come. My yellow and purple crocuses are blooming their heads off. The mornings are still glazed in winter's frosting. Yummmmmmmmm!
