The Power of a Rose An Orchid flower or a dozen Roses Each has the power to bring smile poses They say one cares, they're thoughtful They're transitory and ephemeral The opposite they somehow say One's love is solid it's here to stay When love's established, one can say more A single rose can touch the core Like a kiss or finger's caress Adds so to bliss, ask no more than this All I knew as we lay embraced Lost in love, snug, face to face I need to show you where you've reached How deep inside me you have breached So from a reserve I know not quite how I took a rose from the bouquet Held its bloom below my fingers Asked you to look, make your eyes stay Then laid it on your bosom fair Told you to see it touch your soul And so I brushed it 'gainst your skin Feel the loving warmth like glowing coal My caresses just brush the surface My kisses reach but scant inch deep And so I need the rose's power where Only my words could inside creep Our eyes transfixed each on the other Our breathing raised till it could be heard I spoke of how I would be your lover As your eyes brimmed from my loving word Truly I felt that I touched your soul Truly I melted beyond control For the very first time, I felt whole And once more the flag ascended the pole To 'Have what one wants' happiness isn't But in wanting just what one has, true At that moment I knew without a doubt I wanted and had all I wanted: you! To be wanted and loved as much as one wants That's when one has all of the world So I shouted for joy like a kid with a toy Banners: "We are one" come unfurled But the noise of me drowned in the love of us And the petals have flown to the wind Our tomorrows have flown like a kite But in a rose scent I go there again and again Great souls have wills; feeble ones have only wishes. ~ Chinese Proverb ~ |

Wonderful writing right from the heart Bill...always love the way you look at things....take care! The poet is like a cocoon; in him the caterpillar of the past finds rest, and from him the butterfly of the future emerges. |

A scent....can bring back wonderful memories and will trigger many sensations....you brought with you in this piece not only a scent, but a feeling, and a memory, and a moment.... well done Mr. Yeats! |

--------quote But the noise of me drowned in the love of us And the petals have flown to the wind Our tomorrows have flown like a kite But in a rose scent I go there again and again ---- Bill--fragrance unlocks so many memories...and the rose in your hand writes a sigh. |

A single scent can hurl us across time and space into the land of memories before we've time to draw another breath... This is lovely... but sad that so much caring could end with only memories. |

I loved the very last line so much......of course the whole poem, but the last line carried such a powerful message, that I will think of it each time I smell a rose in bloom........thank you, Wilfred! Live...Love...Be grateful for both!! |
