To Fly Above Life Virginia Salter running, coursing speeds that grew with every wave of step accelerating naturally until I’d have uplift to soar above the trees over and under wires whirling secretly around the glorious spire carefully, so carefully to keep this joy full hidden so none would suspicious be could do what was forbidden even in tall buildings with ceilings high off the floor could fly as eagles easily aloft from door to door twas many years ago, my friend it ceased to find its way into my dreams, into my will it only stands at bay I miss those times of cloistered flight when comrades in secret flew with me loftily, joyfully above the morning dew. oh what has taken this feat from me what has stolen it from my dreams that I no longer dance and soar above the babbling streams © February 12, 2001 The above piece is inspired by “On Flight,” and my recurring dream of flying that has been gone now from my nights for more than a decade, maybe more than two. I often find myself wondering why I lost this ability to fly above life. I could glide and soar as an eagle. I think I never had to flap my wings. I kind of miss this fantasy that was so powerfully real. |

Virginia, your poem caused me to smile as I remember those dreams too. I was so sure they were real. Beautifully done. Dee I wish you every happiness and pray you'll always have the best of the good things in life. a brand |

Maybe it's because you already do. Lovely, Virginia! To capture and live a moment is truly living |
