At times, I feel I have to walk alone. I bear a burden no one else can share, But if I have to do it on my own Don't think it doesn't matter that you're there. It might be I won't let you see my tears. You may not know the pain I hold within, Accumulated scars of many years Beneath patina of unwounded skin. Although you cannot see, please understand That things you don't perceive may yet be real. Incalculably, touch of human hand Can lift the hidden sorrow that I feel. And though I might not let you share my load, It's good to know we walk along one road. |

Strong piece. But if you find someone that wants to help carry that burden, I hope you change your mind. We were never meant to go through the hard places alone. |

Wonderfully penned, very hopeful with a great message. I'm so glad that you have someone to hold your hand and walk with you in difficult times. Please ignore USBZoso - This person has rudely replied to many poems here. You should be very proud of your love for poetry and of this poem Thank you for sharing your emotions in verse with us! Take care, Melissa~ |

Great poem! It's true there are some loads we can't or won't share... but it does help, knowing a caring friend is there! |

Marilyn, how well I know this feeling - how wonderfully you've drawn it... "Accumulated scars of many years Beneath patina of unwounded skin." What an ache it brings - but also, a comfort, knowing that others share this type of pain... Thank you! Lary |

Expression of feelings in a poem is a necessary part of who we are. We all share many of the same at some time or other. Please feel free to share. I have to add one more comment. That USB person who left the rude reply for you is obviously a hard hearted person. Please take no thought to what was said. Hugs, Deb |

this is beautiful, brought tears to my eyes, and yes I know that road, and sometimes even if we don't share the load, walking side by side makes it easier to put the miles behind us.....great poem |

Helen - Thank you for the hand. Dragonpoe - I am amazed by how many have responded to this one. Thank you for being one of them. USBZoso - Thank you for your honesty. I hope, if you re-read it, that you will see this is not about feeling sorry for myself but about needing other people to walk beside me, as I think we all do. Virginia - Thank you. I do appreciate your comment. This grew out of an experience in my past where I experienced great heartache which I had to keep to myself to protect someone else. I learned that many people are in that situation at some time. I certainly do appreciate those who would share when it is possible. Melissa - Thank you for your sweet reply. Actually, I know there are many who would hold my hand at various times. It is a help, even when it is not possible to tell them everything. As for the critical reply, I would point out that I invited criticism, and while I would prefer it to be constructive, I think it's important that we not dismiss anyone else's opinions. Thank you for being so supportive. You are a sweet lady. Suthern - That's exactly what I was trying to say. Thank you for understanding. Lary - Thank you! Those are my favorite lines, too. Perhaps it is only through experiencing pain like this that we can see that others feel it, too. Deb - Yes, expressing emotion is a large part of writing for me and many others. It can put things in a new perspective or just let off steam (like pounding on the piano!). As for the "USB person", let's not deny him the chance to share his feelings, even if we don't agree with them. Thanks for your caring. Hugs Jill - Thank you. The road is never so long nor so short that it doesn't help to have a friend. Jellybeans - Thank you. Might I offer you a handkerchief for those tears? Hugs Alison - Thank you for your thoughtful comment. Charisma - Thank you kindly for your sweet reply. To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |
