Poet's Magic Moments

As my eyelids slowly open
And my mind emerges
From the land of REM

My head is still resting upon my pillow
Where I'm listening to deep inner thoughts
That are still lying on the surface of my mind
As fresh and sparkling as the morning dew

Words float magically together
Forming still life beauty
On the canvas of my mind
Creating  meaningful thoughts
That I know I must write down
I linger there quietly in these moments
Examining their beauty
Holding them between
The tips of my fingers
Arranging them like flowers
In a special vase
I water them,
Set them aside
Until I can communicate
Their perfume
With pen and paper
or

Thanks "WayOut", I was wondering as I wrote this if other poetry writers awoke from sleep with poetic words on their mind or if it was just me. It would be interesting to know how others get their inspirations. Mine doesn't always come this way, sometimes it is just seeing something and it striking me with special meaning and other times just having a subject on my mind and setting down at the computer, and finding the first lines and all the rest just spilling out.  I encourage others to tell me what inspires their best poetry.

Very well said. Yes, alot of my ideas come from dreams. THo' more often than not, by the time I get the paper and pen, the words fade and I have lost so many wonderful pieces to that. I was told to keep a tape recorder near my bed and voice it instead of write. I have never done that.
good poem.

With the word, I am mighty, with the pen I am free..

Songbird - how true, how real!  And how perfectly arranged, I love the flow...This is exactly how it happens with me - except my flowers tend to fade rather quickly, LOL!
Wondrous words!

I have to agree with everyone else that this flows together wonderfully.   My inspiration tends to come from things I say, or others say, that create germs of ideas, or from things that I have been thinking about for some time.  And true to my owlish nature, I'm more likely to be struck by the muse as I'm falling asleep, and have to turn on the light and start scribbling if I don't want to lose it.  It is interesting to see how many different ways the words come, isn't it?

Just getting around to reponding to some of your comments. You all make me feel so good. It is good to know we experience the same kinds of feelings as far as writing poetry goes.
