Why Do Lovers Come And Go? By: Noah Eaton 2/1/01 So your love disappeared… Slipping from your hands into the damp atmosphere And your heart is torn apart Now everything feels so sudden and so dark For once we lived those days When true love flourished in beauty Of all the sweet couples love that was there to stay True love there would forever be Now those days have faded away The apple tree of lifes green leaves have dried up brown in melancholy All loves lost remains Buried deep in the thirsty soil as the trees shagbark quietly bleeds Please stay strong, please walk on Love may be lost, but it is never gone Dreams will come to those who wish for them Don’t say that love and hope is all in your head And we’ve gone so far, who’d ever thought it would get this bad A world dying of love, feeling so bitter cold And it’s not your fault that true love just fell apart like that You wonder “Why do lovers come and go?” and you don’t know Take a walk down your old neighborhood That burning nostalgia of past beauty and youth bubbling in your veins Your neighbors would always say hello, and everything was good The milkman would smile, friends would give hugs and hand shakes Now you have come back, and you feel just like chopped liver Moms and dads watching TV, not having the will to help their children with their homework, or to enjoy the great outdoors You can’t even stay outside any longer, as you shiver As children’s hearts are raped of innocence and victimized by pain and gore You wish you could tear away at this desire to be loved every day Escape yourself and follow the Middle Way, but you end up taking the by-way Oh, I know how painful it feels But you’ve got to hold on to your high hopes, keep head over heels And the times keep changing, who ever thought they’d come so fast A world dying of love, in a huge garden of empty souls And it’s not your fault that true love just fell apart like that You wonder “Why do lovers come and go?” and you don’t know I know it feels so sudden, but please don’t say it’s over And I know how hard it feels to stop and wonder When will I find true love, how much longer This day will come, for you are a blessed person, a true lover So your love faded away Out from your sensitive soul, drowning in sorrows bay And your heart is shattered to pieces You feel lost and confused, and you feel you are part of the trenches There were times when everyone melted in sweet words of charm Sweethearts smile together, holding hands and serenading Always loving each other, taking care of each others heart Roses, kisses, hugs, sweetly celebrating But now much love is bitter, fake, and never sworn People harassing one another, leaving others feel terrible Hearts breaking at every minute, thrown aside and left forlorn You are left on the cold ground of reality like a ragdoll, torn apart and feeling miserable And the times keep changing, who ever thought they’d come so fast A world dying of love, in a huge garden of empty souls And it’s not your fault that true love just fell apart like that You wonder “Why do lovers come and go?” and you don’t know Will love survive, I hope so Will love die, I don’t know Can love flourish again, someday we’ll know Why do lovers come and go? We may never know... We may never know... |

Love is like the seasons in a way, I loved this..... it should change but continue on.... "I walked beside the evening sea And dreamed a dream that could not be." George William Curtis |

Why, indeed? and so quickly too! ![]() But yes, lost loves are something I know a little bit about and I could SO relate! Thank you again, for a thoughtful and bittersweet read. |

Noah, I've been waiting to reply to this. . . I've read it a couply of times. . . hoping that you had an answer. . . but I see that you're as confused as the rest of us. . . This is an excellent poem. . . and like serenity, I too can relate all too well. . . ![]() ----------------------------------------------------- To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |

I wish I knew the answer. Maybe if it comes and goes it was really meant to be for if it was it would surely endure all, wouldn't it? Very well expressed, Noah. I, too, can relate to this. LW Poetry should surprise by fine excess...it should strike the reader as a wording of his own highest thoughts and appear almost a remembrance. -J.Keats |

If anyone ever gets the answer to this one be sure to let me know! *w* Well done Noah. Perplexing question with no easy answer. On the wings of words our spirits fly, and our souls are free. Donna Smith |
