She Knows Not She knows not for how long she has felt this pull Only that into his soul she yearns forever to fall Each day she cedes and yields yet even more power And so in this way she builds her own prison tower With each passing hour she sinks lower deeper down When did she first move here to Heartaches town? She knows that sense has deserted her, its walked out That there is no reality and truth resides in doubt Seeking a dream she just wandered into this place And was then blinded and dazzled by lusts glitzy face She knows it wasn’t love that brought her here As she knows that it isn’t real truth she should fear She knows that she should now start to turn around To leave before she can only hear the empty sound Of her heart breaking or tears echoing in her mind Wondering where or even if ever love she will find She knows that true love never walked with her As she knows also his heart she couldn’t ever stir She knows but that is different from walking away Particularly when her heart wishes she would stay She knows that she cannot believe her own eyes And that she can’t base her future on false sighs She knows, as she understands what she should do She knows not for how long she has felt his pull Marsha Take back the hope you gave,- I claim Only a memory of the same Robert Browning |

She knows that sense has deserted her, its walked out That there is no reality and truth resides in doubt ==================== She knows it wasn’t love that brought her here As she knows that it isn’t real truth she should fear ================= She knows that true love never walked with her As she knows also his heart she couldn’t ever stir ================ She knows that she cannot believe her own eyes And that she can’t base her future on false sighs =================== many words of wisdom in this bittersweet well written piece ... the kind of wisdom that comes from learning lifes lessons of love the hard way ... but then those are the ones we remember and grow the most from in time. your poetry is growing as this piece shows take care If my slight Muse do please these curious days ... The pain be mine ... but thine shall be the praise. ~Shakespeare~ |

This has some really great ideas in it. I think, though, if you could pare it down it will have much more power. Maybe even blank verse or free verse would add strength, too. It's possible that the rhyming adds just a touch of whimsy where none is wanted. You can tell you know what you're talking about, the real feelings behind the type of heartache, so I think it would be worth working on. It's your poem, ultimately, of course. |
