paradigm nine times out of ten my heart is ashamed of the seconds that break free of february’s last dance and i’m heeding your last words as the porcelain minutes fall and tip your love over like a brimful paper cup or an obvious allusion to paradise and when i tip the side clear it’s a vase full of sky swaying its arms to rhythms unchained and it seems like the hours i need you are the hours we play pantomime, the hours we play charades the hours gone unnoticed and my heart stretches its strings to minutes unheard and i play helpless to this fever and to this audio-visual scratch, the timbre that tears at my heart as your words go unadorned and this silence carves out misery today as i count backwards from ten to one, with your letters clutched in my hand nearby “this is not your paradigm” i say ripping the seven-inch-wide seams and my pretty slip lost its stitch when your heart fell through its cracks into the grooves of that wooden latticework and love can only dream. and i can only dream of you. |
