QUAKE The earth shuttered for one brief moment leaving a life time of torment for all those swept up in it's furry. News went out across the land people were in need of a helping hand there was a real need to hurry. All about there was total distruction all that was familiar, no longer there. Those things that were considered strong now reduced to heaps of rubble. This was only the beginning of the trouble. The people milled about in total disbelief unable to comprehend the enormity of it all. Caught up in their own grief they wondered idly about. Didn't this use to be the Mall? As the relief workers arrive, for those still alive, they were mobbed by out stretched hands. Beseaching them for a crumb of bread so they could have the strength to search for their dead. At first all seemed hopeless to those left behind. But miracles do happen, survivors were found. And with each one renewing the hope for others. They sat aside their own loss and grief to help others who yesterday were strangers. Now each lending the other the strength to carry on. All this confusion was an intrusion of our own private worlds to show us all that we are members of the family of man. .....nona |

Forgive me for being slow to reply to your feedback. I am afraid I have been off on a different tangent for a few days and unable to check in. Thank you Kathleen, Sven and Cerenity for responding with your kind words. I was just very much affected by a photo in our news paper showing the Quake victums around a relief truck throwing out loaves of bread...this really wrote itself all I did was hold the pencil......nona |

Nona~ As with you, I viewed the intensity of the quakes in India ... my heart broke as the prayers rose in my throat ... Such suffering and such loss ... I am still waiting word from a friend I have there. I would ask all to offer prayers ... the tragedies of this catastrophe will be felt for a very long time. Thank you for posting this. ~*Marge*~ ~*The pen of the poet never runs out of ink, as long as we breathe.*~ [email protected] |

Nona, I am sorry I missed this one before. I, too, have been watching the news of this tragedy with great sadness. I have many Indian fellow-poets at another site, one of whom lives in Gujarat, and a very dear friend who is also Gujarati, not living there but with much of his family still there. Thank you for writing what has been in so many hearts. To love another person is to see the face of God. - Les Miserables Marilyn |

I think the dynamics of the feelings we are having is not limited to just this tragic incident, but the humbling of we as humans who often need reminding just what is really important. It refocus's our way of thinking about what is really important. Your words are always special to me Marge. You have made me feel very welcome since my first post..Thank you kcsgrandma for taking the time to reponds. I pray your loved ones are safe...nona [This message has been edited by nona (edited 02-06-2001).] |
