I was singing my song For they’d asked me to sing We were sitting on driftwood I could hear my notes ring Of the shores rocky crags Reflected in firelight I felt like a king My feet in the sand The full moon was bright Old friends they all were Just me unattached They were humming along They each had a match I just had my song Their night was romantic I was their troubadour They all snuggled close I was dreaming of more My heart in my notes Then out of the shadows From somewhere up beach Starlight in your eyes You stepped into the breach I stood when I saw you My voice took on new meaning Our eyes locked as you sensed it I saw passion’s first gleaming Was it firelight or moonglow That night – magic or fate That drew us together before our first date I know not nor care not Just know that I know A fateful beginning to a love that turned great I finished my song Said ‘I’ll see you’ to friends Stepped up, took your hand Seemed most perfect of blends We walked off down the sand Rapport was so great That we walked long in silence And just seemed to know We were both present tense Then words tumbled out Like a dam bursting downriver All the trivial things Our hearts were aquiver In no time at all – We each poured out our heart And knew certain that moment We’d made a great start I know not nor care not It’s all history now Now we’re mated for life We’ve both taken the vow The knot’s been tied strongly Sealed our fate with one kiss I’ll remember forever I’d never known such bliss This is trivial verse It is no epic sonnet Yet for us ‘tis not terse Our hearts’ are written upon it For now I’ve grown bald And your hair’s turned to silver Yet we’ve grown but closer You still make my heart quiver I still sing my songs But they’re only for you And our love’s grown but deeper Since you came from the blue We still walk the beach And the surf’s where we play A place we both love At the end of the day Our son’s and our daughters Were conceived here along I’m sure it was fate I was singing my song You can always tell a real friend; when you've made a fool of yourself, a real friend doesn't feel you've done a permanent job. ~ Laurence J. Stayed up watching the Sinatra story last night....a few of these lines are reminiscent of his time when Ava walked into a hotel that he had an engagement at...and he stood a little straighter, sang a little louder....all to her.... well done, Mr. Yeats...nothing trivial about it! Bill....I'm sure it was your voice that brought her to your side for in the song you see is a heart of poetry [This message has been edited by Martie (edited 01-30-2001).] |

If the songs you sing are as romantic as your poems I'm not a bit surprised at the turnout. Well done. |

Karilea- I watched that Sinatra thing - in two pieces - last half - and 1st half the next night - a fairly faithful account I thought - truth told - a PBS special some nights later reflected his best songs. I think Ava could do that to/for a man ~G~ Although - I don't doubt you could too. Thanks Victoria- Thank you - Martie - What a very nice sweet thing to say Thank you so much Elizabeth- I suspect you've kissed the blarney stone - thank you ~ |

I believe Sir that I am among the many who wished they were there to hear you sing. . . superb. . . ------------------------------------------------------ To the world, you may only be one person. But to one person, you may be the world. |
