I Drink to Perfidy

scorpions dance in my dreams
and twirl me about until I
no longer see your face in the
mist of Niagara

saguaro rise and stretch their arms
out ... keeping my desiccated, decaying
dismembered heart from crossing the
desert to reach you

kisses of sugar still linger on
my lips while the blistering sun
seals the taste of you into a
bitter memory

raising a goblet filled with
the prickly pear punch I
mixed with the last words
I heard from you...
I drink to your dreams....
